Today would have been Helen Lack’s birthday, but at 12.36am the same day, Helen sadly passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer.
We first met Helen at an art fair in London 4 years ago and since then, we have had the joy of watching her grow as an artist and seeing her work snapped up by collectors globally.
Helen achieved, in a short period of time, what many don’t in a lifetime and it was a pleasure to see her rise within the art world and earn her the recognition she deserved. We are also honoured to have Helen as part of the CreativeFolk family and showcase some of her beautiful art, with all proceeds of her work going to the Macmillan Cancer Charity.
Throughout her battle, Helen remained constantly upbeat and painted to the very end. A few weeks ago we had the pleasure of interviewing Helen to discuss her work and how her abstract paintings have helped deal with everything she was going through.
For us, what was most apparent during the conversation was her positive outlook, while many would have curled into a ball and given up, Helen chose to seize everyday with both hands and made sure to make the most out of every opportunity.
Helen’s work became a part of her cancer journey; an outpouring of emotions and a visual diary that captured Helen’s feelings, and from the outpouring of beautiful messages on social media, it is very clear that Helen, and her work, had a huge impact on many people.
We are deeply saddened by the news and our thoughts go out to those she has left behind.
